The Carolina Hurricanes will square off against the Philadelphia flyers tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Hurricanes are coming off a stellar 1-0 shutout against the Ottawa Senators behind 33 saves from starting goaltender Dan Ellis. Ellis will get the nod tonight against the Flyers and will look to continue his elevated level of play. Eric Staal scored the only goal for the Hurricanes last night, his fifth of the season, and the team was able to keep the first period lead for the remainder of the game by way of good penalty killing and a strong offensive forecheck and attack.
The Philadelphia Flyers have gotten off to a slow start this season and have a 2-6 record to show for it. Flyers' forward Scott Hartnell is out for the next two months due to a broken foot, and all-star forward Claude Giroux is still feeling the effects from a neck injury he sustained while playing in Germany during the recent lockout. The Flyers will look to improve after a 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals in their last game. The Flyers won three out of four games in the season series against the Hurricanes last season and will look to build on that tonight.
This is the first game of a six-game road swing for the Carolina Hurricanes, they will face the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators this upcoming Monday and Wednesday respectively.
