The Carolina Hurricanes are facing the New York Islanders in the fifth game of their six-game road trip that ends in New Jersey Tuesday night. The Hurricanes have earned points in their last three games, but are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers this past Saturday afternoon. Captain Eric Staal is currently riding an eight-game point streak, he has seven goals and five assists during the streak, and starting goaltender Cam Ward seems comfortable between the pipes only allowing three goals on his last 89 shots faced over the past three games.
The Hurricanes will face the New York Islanders who are coming off a 3-2 home loss to the Buffalo Sabres this past Saturday. Forward John Tavares scored in the first period and Colin McDonald scored in the second but a third period goal by Buffalo's Alexander Sultzer lifted the Sabres to the win. The Islanders enter the game with a 4-6-1 record and are being led by all-star John Tavares and last year's leading scorer Matt Mouslon.
The Carolina Hurricanes lost all four games to the New York Islanders during the 2011-2012 season (two regulation losses and two overtime losses), but the Hurricanes will look to keep their current streak alive and secure points for the fourth straight game.
